Neel Samarthh, known for his role in the hit show Kundali Bhagya, is using his voice to shatter harmful misconceptions around smoking.As the world observes World No Tobacco Day on May 31, the actor spoke out against the glamorization of tobacco use in popular culture. And calling for greater awareness and informed decision-making among the youth in a recent interview.
“Smoking Has Got the Wrong Image”
Neel pointed out how films, television, and even social media have often portrayed smoking as a symbol of confidence, rebellion, and boldness. “Smoking got the wrong image of cool and bold,” he said. This misleading perception, he added, has influenced many young individuals to take up the habit without fully understanding the consequences.
He is also emphasizing that smoking is often adopted as a style statement, particularly among teenagers and aspiring actors, who are misled by screen idols lighting up in dramatic scenes.

Contrary to its image in pop culture, smoking is one of the leading causes of preventable deaths globally. Neel highlighted how tobacco use is directly linked to serious health issues. Which also includes lung cancer, heart disease, and chronic respiratory illnesses. “What’s being portrayed as stylish is actually deadly,” he stressed.
As someone in the public eye, Neel feels a sense of responsibility to spread awareness. “If even one person decides not to smoke after hearing this, that’s a victory,” he said.

Neel’s message on World No Tobacco Day is clear: don’t fall for the false narrative. He urges fans, especially the younger generation, to think critically about what they see in media and understand the real dangers of smoking.
